Job Description & Requirements

Oncology Nurse

Summary of workflow? Epic Inbasket messaging experience or similar. Answer live patient calls and quickly assess, triage, and send to providers for a response, critical thinking to include sending emergency patients to ED, paging providers for quick interventions, etc, Respond to patient and close encounters when patient has been instructed regarding interventions and treatments. Our clinic is a surgical oncology clinic performing cystoscopies and prostate biopsies. Nurses are assisting with procedures, completing preoperative education, facilitating clinic flow, and meeting the needs of a preoperative oncology patient. We provide preoperative and post-operative care for prostate surgery and other complex kidney, bladder, and genitourinary surgeries for the oncology patient. We work in teams to provide this care. We also provide the care for Hematology malignancy patients. These are high acuity patients that need nursing assessment for our outpatient chemotherapy regimens. These patients are seen multiple days a week for nurse visits and supportive care is ordered by protocol after a reviews of labs and systems. This population needs bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and skin biopsies. We do not administer chemotherapy in this clinic except for intrathecal administration done by the providers. Our nurses are involved in all of the teaching associated with chemotherapy for genitourinary and hematology malignancies.

Required Qualifications

NC RN LIC # and exp Prev Travel Experience from a Level I Trauma Center Pt. population: Oncology –all solid tumors (procedural nurses exp. highly recommended) Willing to work with urology procedures such as prostate biopsies and cystoscopes.
