JOB DESCRIPTION--MS Float Pool SimpliFi Interview About Facility: 492 Beds 2105 E. South Blvd., Montgomery, AL 36116 Level II Trauma Center Level III NICU Primary Stroke Center First-time traveler: Yes, 1 yr- 1.5 yrs experience in MS if they sign a 20-26 wk contract They will get an ADDITIONAL 2-3 shifts of UNIT orientation for a total of 4/5 shifts. We'll begin with 4 and add an additional if necessary. Will also accept: 18 months+ of experience (LTAC/Rehab okay) with at least 6 months of MedSurg (prefers MS to be recent) Staff has to be gone for 3 months before returning as a traveler. From last shift worked to start date Will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation. 6 North Trauma Surgical Beds: 23 Patient Types: General Surgery, Cholecystectomy, Ostomy, Splenectomy, Vascular surgeries Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 Skills required: At least 1 year of trauma experience. Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation and escalations 5 South Neuroscience Beds: 33 Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases, post trauma, angiogram, post ICU Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 Skills required: IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, Colostomy/Ostomy, Wound Care, Chest tube, Surgical Site Care, C-Collar, Abdominal Binders, Restraints 5 North MedSurg/Oncology Beds: 39 (very busy unit) Patient Types: All patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, behavioral patients. MS/Oncology patients 1:6 for RN and LPNs Skills required: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, behavioral issues, codes, IV starts; Chemo administration, if certified Tele monitoring on hallway monitors and by tele techs on ground floor 4 South Clinical Decision Unit Beds: 18 Patient Types: General patient population hospitalized for various causes, such as illness, surgery, testing, or observation COPD, CHF, Diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, Pneumonia, Renal Failure, Sepsis, UTI, End of Life Comfort Patient Ratios: 1:6 Skills required: Assessment, prioritization, communication and documentation skills. Tracheotomy care, Suctioning, O2 Therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, External catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tube, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, restraints. 3 South Orthopedics Beds: 20 Patient Types: Orthopedic and spine: Joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies, etc. Patient Ratios: 1:5; 1:6 if medsurg Skills required: PCA pumps, wound care (negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, foley, drains (hemovacs/JP drains) 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology Beds: 23 Patient Types: Urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg Patient Ratios: Team Nursing 1:8 (1 RN: 1 LPN: 8 patients); 1:6 Skills Required: Trach, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, follow nurse-driven foley protocol. No required to read/measure tele strips. Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Support on the Unit: CNA (Ratio): 6:1 Receptionist/HUC? Yes Charge nurse? Yes, rarely takes assignment. Phlebotomy? Yes IV/VAT Team? Yes Hospitalist? Yes Telemetry monitoring tech? Are RNs required to read/measure tele strips? Yes, telemetry is monitored by Telemetry Techs, RNs are required to interpret and confirm q4 hours strip reading Technology/Equipment: EMR: Cerner (preferred) IV pumps: Plum 360 Medication dispensing: Omnicell Monitors: Spacelabs Floating: If yes, where? Any like unit/patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds) Orientation: Travelers who are new to the facility or return travelers who have been gone for 1+ years will have 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit Rehires: orientation will depend on last date here Scheduling: Weekend rotation: Every other or 4 weekend days per month if on block schedule On call? If so, what is that schedule? No Holiday Expectations: This does not mean they will automatically be scheduled for those dates, but we will not contractually guarantee to being off prior to arrival. Baptist Blackout dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: 1/15 Valentine’s Day (week): 2/10 – 2/17 Spring Break (week) Easter Weekend: 3/30 – 3/31 Mother’s Day Weekend Memorial Day (week): 5/24 – 5/27 Father’s Day Weekend Labor day weekend: 9/2-9/4 Halloween: 10/30-31 Thanksgiving: 11/22-25 Christmas and New Year’s: 12/23-26 and 12/31-1/1 Approval of time off? “No blackout dates” RTO pending manager approval (Eanh) Shift times: 7a-7p, 7p-7a Schedule cycle: 4 week cycle period; no self scheduling Other notes: Scrub Color: Any color Parking: Parking deck only 2nd through 4th levels
