Recruiters are the heart of any great travel nursing company. Besides being seasoned professionals who possess a profound understanding of the health care staffing business, recruiters are the people who give their travel company a voice, a human touch and most importantly, take their travelers dreams and turn them into reality.

Kristen Ledgard is the epitome of a dedicated recruiter whose warmth and personality make her an integral part of American Mobile Healthcare’s winning team. Originally from New Jersey, Ledgard relocated to the sunny shores of Southern California 12 years ago, after graduating from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. She has been a part of the American Mobile Healthcare recruitment team for almost five years and has worked with thousands of travel nurses during her tenure. Here’s  what she has to say about her job, her company and the lives she touches on a daily basis.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: “First and foremost, I enjoy forging relationships with nurses from all walks of life. I love talking to them and finding out what motivates them, what’s important to them and what they want to accomplish as a travel nurse. Once they start traveling, I enjoy hearing about their wonderful experiences and knowing that I played a part in making it happen. Most of my travelers have been with me for several years. I know some of them so well, sometimes I know where they want to go on their next assignment before they even decide!”

Q: What is the secret to your success as a recruiter?

A: “I believe in treating my travelers as I would like to be treated. It’s important to ask the right questions and to be a good listener. It’s also important to realize that each traveler is an individual and everyone’s needs are different. What might be a good assignment for one person, won’t necessarily be good for someone else.”

Q: Why do you think nurses should choose to travel with American Mobile?

A: “American Mobile has more assignments in more locations than any other travel nursing company. We offer great compensation and benefits, plus we have the best recruiters in the business. Because of our professionalism and many years of experience in the industry, we are highly respected by both travel nurses and health care facilities.”

Q;If you were a traveler, where would you travel to?

A: “New York City! I’m an East Coast girl at heart. I think it’s the greatest city in the world.”

Q: What advice do you have for anyone who’s considering travel nursing?

A: “Make sure you choose a company that has experienced, professional recruiters. A recruiter who respects and supports your decisions and truly listens to what you want is the key to a successful, rewarding assignment. If you want to travel to a variety of places, you need to choose a company that offers you the most job opportunities across all 50 states, as well as a highly competitive compensation package.”
